Background and Aims: Norovirus is the common etiologic agent of acute gastroenteritis. This study aimed to provide a systematic review and meta-analysis of norovirus prevalence in Iranian patients with acute gastroenteritis. Material and methods: Aliterature search was done in PubMed (Medline), Web of Science, Embase, Scopus, Google Scholar and Iranian databases (IranMedex, Scientific Information Databank) until December 2023. The keywords were Norovirus, Gastroenteritis, Prevalence, and Iran. The information, including first author’s name, Iranian province or city, publication date, study period, sample size, the number of norovirus-positive subjects, laboratory detection method, age groups, gender, and the norovirus genogroups were extracted from articles. Results: Seventeen articles, involving 4794 patients, were included in the meta-analysis. The pooled prevalence of norovirus was estimated at 9% (95% CI: 6% - 12%). The pooled prevalence of norovirus GI and GII genogroups was 1% (95% CI: 0% - 2%) and 9% (95% CI: 6% - 14%), respectively. Conclusions: To manage norovirus-related gastroenteritis, monitoring patients with acute gastroenteritis is essential.
